Dairy Beach surf guide

Dairy Beach is a designated surfing area that can be enjoyed at any time of day. It's a popular spot for surfers looking for some consistent waves, and you can find nice peaks here. The beach faces east, making it ideal for east swell conditions. There's some protection from the wind coming from the northeast, especially at higher tides, which can make for some decent sessions.

When it comes to surfing, Dairy Beach works best with east swells, but it can also handle some northeast and southwest swells. The beach breaks offer both left and right waves, appealing to different surfing abilities. It's suitable for beginners, and you can catch waves when sizes are around 2ft (0.6 meters) up to bigger conditions. The waves break over sand, making it a good option for those still getting the hang of things. For the best experience, the preferable wind direction is from the southwest, and you can surf at low, mid, or high tide.

One thing to keep in mind is that Dairy Beach can get pretty crowded. You'll see all sorts of surfcraft in the water, so it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. On certain days, when it's big, the rights at New Pier can link into the Dairy Bowl, but it's important to watch out for the sweep that can pull you toward the pier.
