Davenport Landing surf guide

Davenport Landing is a surf spot located along the stunning California coastline. It's a place that offers decent waves for surfers looking to catch some fun rides. The area features a lined-up left reef on the south end and a right at the north end of the cove, making it versatile for different preferences. The access is pretty straightforward if you know where to look, and while the surf can get crowded on weekends, you might find it more relaxed on weekday mornings.

The left wave on the south is best during south swells and often works well at mid to high tides, reaching sizes between waist high (about 1 meter) and overhead (up to 2.5 meters). You can also catch a mushy right on the north end, but it usually requires lower tides and a northwest swell that's bigger than chest high (about 1.5 meters). Crowds can vary, but most days you might find a laid-back vibe, with the local surfers keeping it chill. The preferable wind direction is from the northeast, which helps to groom the waves nicely.

When you head out, be aware of the rocks and the occasional shark sightings. The bottom is primarily rocky ledge, so make sure to keep that in mind when choosing your board. Both shortboards and funboards work well here, so bring what you feel comfortable on. Davenport Landing offers a solid surf experience year-round, with spring, summer, autumn, and winter providing various conditions to enjoy.
