Derecha del Faro is a surf spot located in Maspalomas, one of Gran Canaria's most popular beach resorts. It doesn't always have the best conditions, but there are a few times throughout the year when it can really shine. The spot can handle sizable swells, particularly from the West, and features a lengthy right-hand wave that allows for multiple sections to surf. It’s surrounded by the beautiful natural backdrop of dunes and a lake, making it a scenic place to catch some waves.
The wave at Derecha del Faro works best with swells coming from the West or NorthWest, and it can handle sizes around 1 meter (3 feet). When the conditions are right, you’ll find a long righthander breaking over boulders and sand, with some good sloping walls perfect for performance surfing. There are also some shorter peaks on either side of the lighthouse for variety. This spot is suitable for surfers of all levels, including beginners, especially during the low to mid tide when the waves are more manageable.
Keep in mind that this spot can get crowded, as it’s a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Parking can be a bit of a hassle since there's often a fee, so plan ahead if you're driving there. If you’re in the area, it's worth checking out the stunning dunes and the lake nearby, which are highlights of the Maspalomas area.
