More about Devereux surfspot

General: For higher consistency but lower quality, Devereux, aka Coal Oil Point, is another right-hander on the opposite side of town that is a lot mushier and sectionier than Campus Point, but it does turn on occasionally and boasts a series of takeoff zones. The outer peak is a steep drop near some wash rocks, and it either sections off or holds up for a fast line through the inside. Tides: medium Size: chest-high to double overhead Wind: N, NE Swell: WSW, W, WNW... preferably a swell period less than 15 seconds Bottom: Rock Paddling: Average. Spot Rating: Usually sectiony but can get pretty good on occasion.

Intermediate to advanced

All directions are oriented for northbound travelers. Exit 101 onto Storke-Glen Annie Road, go left and zip straight into Isla Vista/El Colegio Road, passing the monolithic twin Francisco Torres dorms. Bear right onto Camino Corto, take it to Del Playa Drive, then turn right and park somewhere along Camino Majorca.

October-February

Crowd Factor: The most popular game in town. Local Vibe: Mellow.

Pretty clean unless it just rained.

Sneaky submerged rocks, kelp, tar in your toes and on your board and wetsuit.
