Domes is a surf spot located near Rincon, known for being the first point to catch long right-hand waves. It’s a bit out from the main area, so it can get some solid trade swell. While it often picks up more swell than the spots closer to shore, it doesn't handle large swells too well due to its position in a small bay. This can lead to some crowding, especially when it’s one of the few spots working on a given day.
The wave at Domes is mainly a right point break with a shorter left. You can find several takeoff spots, both inside and outside, depending on the swell size and direction. On a good day, it can throw some fun sections, and it’s a nice place for open-face carves. It handles swells from about 1m to 2.1m (3ft to 7ft) and works best with northeast swell but can also pick up some northwest swell. The preferred wind direction is southeast, and it's best during low to mid tides. Keep in mind that it can get pretty crowded here, especially in the summer and spring when no other spots are firing.
To access the spot, just look for the dome and park nearby. There can be a lot of wannabe locals and regular crowds out, so the local vibe may feel a bit heavy at times. Domes is a great place for both beginners and more experienced surfers looking to work on their skills. The seasons to consider are mainly autumn and winter for the best consistency, but late summer is also worth checking for tropical swells.
