Doot Poktoy surf guide

Doot Poktoy is a surf spot located at the Lanuza Rivermouth, known for its fast and powerful waves. This place draws surfers looking for a fun session, especially when the conditions come together. The spot can be fickle, needing a decent typhoon swell from the northeast, along with a good build-up of sandbanks on the north side of the rivermouth. It usually stays less crowded, except during the November contest when it might get busy.

The surf here is mostly right-handed and can be a treat for intermediate surfers. The ideal swell direction is from the northeast, with the spot handling swell sizes starting at around 2 feet (0.6 meters). Low tide is where you’ll find the most tubular waves, but don’t count out mid and high tides, as they can still deliver plenty of fun. The waves break over sand and sometimes have a reef-like feel, making them interesting to ride. For the best experience, aim for a southwesterly wind, which complements the wave conditions.

Just keep in mind that Doot Poktoy isn’t a guaranteed score every time. It can be compared to a reverse Mundaka in terms of power and wave shape, though it's even more unpredictable. Check the forecasts and go when it’s firing to make the most of it!
