Eaglehawk Neck surf guide

Eaglehawk Neck is located about a one-hour drive from Hobart. This spot is a thin isthmus of land that attracts some decent sandbars along its long curve. It can handle a variety of swell sizes, making it a popular choice for surfers looking for different types of waves. When conditions are good, surfers can enjoy long rides from out the back to the beach, but be prepared for heavy paddle-outs and some drift at times.

This surf spot really shines with a NorthEast swell and can handle sizes starting from 1ft (about 0.3 meters) up to bigger swells. The waves break over sand, and you can catch both lefts and rights here. The best winds are from the West, and it works well at low, mid, or high tides. Beginners can enjoy surfing here when the waves are smaller, but it can get tricky when the swell picks up.

Keep in mind that Eaglehawk Neck has a bit of a reputation for being sharky, but that hasn't stopped surfers from enjoying its waves, especially in the summer months. If you're looking for a spot that offers a mix of waves and readily available paddling, give it a go when the conditions are right.
