Easkey Right surf guide

Easkey Right is a well-known surf spot on the west coast of Ireland, located near the village of Easkey. The wave is a right-hand reef break that can be consistent but doesn't always deliver the epic sessions people talk about. While it can produce some world-class tubes, most of the time you're looking at a long wall that's pretty easy to manage. The spot works best with west swell and low tide.

The wave itself is a long right reef that breaks in several sections depending on the tides and swell direction. You'll find it handles swell sizes anywhere from 1.2 meters (4ft) to over 4.5 meters (15ft). The optimal conditions are with a southwest wind and low tide, making it quite surfable for intermediate surfers. The bottom is a reef, which can be sharp and uneven at times, so be aware of that. The paddle out isn't long but expect to paddle back a bit if you score a good wave. You can expect this wave to get chest high to well overhead, depending on the conditions.

Access to Easkey Right is straightforward, with parking available right in front of the wave. There's no rubbish bin around, so bring your trash back with you. The crowd can get busy, especially on good days since it's easy to access and popular among surfers looking for a good ride. The vibe is generally mellow, but there can be some tension, especially as nearby spots can be more sensitive to local surfers. Keep an eye out for sharp reef and rocks washed in during bigger swells, and it's best to avoid surfing when the waves exceed 1.8 meters (6ft).
