East Wittering surf guide

East Wittering is a long stretch of sandy beach located on the southern coast of England. It features pebbles and shingle at high tide, but it really opens up when the tide drops. The beach is popular among water sports enthusiasts, especially windsurfers, due to its consistent conditions. It can be considered a mostly average surf spot but has the potential to serve up some decent waves, particularly when the swell is just right. It’s a spot known for its friendly local vibe, and it draws a big crowd, especially longboarders.

The surf here works best with swells coming from the SouthWest, handling sizes from about 2 to 6 feet (0.6 to 1.8 meters). The waves can break both left and right over a sandy bottom, especially during lower tides. When conditions align with a clean groundswell and light winds, you can find some fun peaks with long, walling waves. However, when it’s more of a windswell, the surf can get a bit choppy and confused. The spot can cater to beginners and intermediates alike, but it’s important to note that paddling can be a bit of a workout when the waves are on the bigger side.

Getting to East Wittering can be tricky with limited parking options near the beach, but the Marine Drive car park is a close choice. While it can get busy, there’s generally plenty of space to spread out on the beach. Just keep in mind that after heavy rains, the water conditions can be variable. The prime surfing season here runs from September to February, making it a good spot for those cooler months.
