El Claron is a surf spot located just north of the fishing hamlet of Horcon. It features a long, sweeping bay that attracts surfers, especially when the swell picks up. The spot isn't just a straightforward pointbreak; there are actually only a couple of areas that are regularly surfed here. The main surfable spots are located towards the end of the point, where the rocks curve outwards. While it may look like a long pointbreak, you’ll find that the action mainly happens near the end or off the outer point.

When the swell comes from the south, El Claron can deliver some decent left point breaks, typically over a mix of sand and rocks. It can handle swell sizes from about 5ft to 10ft (1.5m to 3m), but the takeoff zone can be pretty tight, especially with the locals in the water. This spot is best surfed during low to mid tides and is well protected from south to southwest winds. However, if the swell veers a bit west, it tends to close out, which can be a bummer. If you're looking to stay away from the heavy beach breaks during a big swell, this spot offers a nice alternative, provided you can navigate the crowd.

Access to El Claron is straightforward; you can park in town and either take a short walk back or scramble down from the top of the hill. It can get crowded here, but if you're chill and friendly, the vibe among the locals is usually pretty good. This spot is mainly for intermediate surfers and works best in the autumn and winter seasons. Just keep an eye out for those hidden rocks when paddling out; they can catch you off guard.
