El Conquistador surf guide

El Conquistador is a popular surf spot located right in front of the Conquistador Hotel. This beach generally attracts all levels of surfers, especially cyclists and intermediates. It has a rocky bay where the waves can be mellow when the swell is smaller, making it fun for various wavecraft. The spot is known for its peeling lefts and rights, which can get pretty exciting when the conditions are just right.

The surf here works well on all tides and can handle swell sizes from about waist high (1 meter) to double overhead (3 meters). Typically, it shines with a southwest swell, but it can also pick up waves from the southeast and northwest directions. When the conditions are good, the reef can produce fast walls, ideal for more experienced surfers looking for a challenge. In general, expect both lefts and rights breaking over an uneven reef, with some sections being more manageable when the swell is smaller. The wind from the east or southeast helps make the waves more enjoyable.

Access to the beach is straightforward, with beachside parking available on Calle Arenas Blancas. Just be careful of the sharp rocks on the inside, especially during low tides. Since it’s a popular spot, especially when conditions are favorable, you might find the crowd factor high, so be prepared for a bit of competition for waves, but the vibe here is usually pretty chill.
