El Faro surf guide

El Faro is a surf spot located in a beautiful bay, known for its long rights that can deliver some decent rides. The area is quite popular among surfers but also has limited access since it's near the luxurious Four Seasons Resort. To reach it, you'll need to make a bit of effort with a long walk, a paddle, or catching a boat from the small harbor at Corral del Risco's beach, El Anclote.

The waves at El Faro are best when there’s a southwest swell, ideally suited for those with intermediate surfing skills. The swells can range in size from 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and can break over an uneven reef. You can expect mostly right-point waves that have multiple sections to ride through. Lower tides and north winds create the best conditions for longer rides, while the waves get a bit more powerful as the swell size increases. Make sure to keep an eye on the tide; it works well with low, mid, or high tide levels.

If you’re looking for a spot to warm up, Anclote beach has some beginner-friendly beach breaks right by the rivermouth jetty. There’s also a mellow right-hand reef break to the west that's good for longboards, though it can get more challenging as the swell picks up. The prevailing northwesterly winds often blow directly offshore, which helps clean up the swell and makes for better conditions during the year.
