El Golf surf guide

El Golf is a popular surf spot located just south of Talara. It draws surfers looking for reliable waves, especially when conditions are flat at other nearby locations. The vibe here is laid-back, making it a decent choice for those wanting to catch some surf without the hustle and bustle. You can easily park on the beach, which allows for a close watch on your gear.

This spot works well with swells coming from the South and Northwest, making it a solid pick when the surf is on. El Golf can handle wave sizes around 2ft (0.6m) and delivers punchy, fast beach break waves that offer both left and right rides. The breaks tend to be hollow and can form nicely, especially on the ideal conditions when other points may not be firing. Be prepared for some challenging currents as the size increases, so it’s best suited for intermediate surfers. The ideal wind direction here is from the East, and it can be surfed at low, mid, and high tides.

One noticeable aspect is that the water temperature can be quite different compared to parts of Talara. You might find it 2°C (5°F) cooler here than on the north side of town. This spot can get crowded, particularly when it's flat elsewhere, so be ready to share the waves with others!
