Encuentro is located just a bit east of Puerto Plata, nestled past Sosua in the Dominican Republic. This spot sits at the western end of Cabarete beach, known for being a popular location for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Encuentro features a mix of reef breaks, making it a desirable destination for surfers looking for variety. The area typically has a laid-back vibe, and the crowds are usually pretty light, which can make for a more enjoyable session.

The surf here can cater to different skill levels, with waves that range from waist high (around 1 meter) to a few feet overhead (up to 2.7 meters). The spot handles swells coming from various directions, including Northwest, North, Northeast, and even some East. Most days you can find it working well with swells in the 4-foot (1.2 meters) to 9-foot (2.7 meters) range. You'll find both lefts and rights breaking over coral, giving surfers plenty of options. The best wind direction is from the West to North, especially with a preference for the low to mid tide.

Encuentro isn’t just for surfers; it’s also a popular kiteboarding spot, which can be an interesting dynamic on the beach. Just be cautious of kiteboard lines while you're in the water. The strong paddling skills are recommended, especially for some of the heavier sections where you might find bigger barrels.
