Enggano Island surf guide
Surf: Surfing Enggano is a whole different story, requiring some form of boat to explore the promising shores of this remote, almost deserted island. There are a range of waves for most wind/swell directions on reefs that are often inside deep bays. Most surfers arrive by ferry and camp, hiring local fishermen to take them out to the reefs closer to the ferry terminal behind Pulau Dua. Even the odd charter/private yacht that ventures out to Enggano will often utlise the services of the local fishing boats to access the reefs since the local navigation can be treacherous. If conditions are calm yachts do anchor in the various bays along the south coast where some awesome waves lurk in certain conditions. Protected by Tanjung Labuho to the west, the lefthander at Teluk Kopi on the south coast will pick up any type of south swell and is offshore in N quadrant winds, but is just one of many options.
Environment: Enggano is blanketed by a lush dense jungle canopy and has an extremely high annual rainfall, making camping more difficult for the few ferals that make the long trip.
