More about Falmouth surfspot

Rare, deep shelter beachbreaks. Maenporth, Gyllyngvase and Swanpool beaches only get quality waves on massive SW swells. There is also a right reef at the west end of Gyllyngvase. E gales in the channel will also produce a rideable wave.

General: The three main beaches at Falmouth - Maenporth, Swanpool and Gyllyngvase - can break when an Atlantic storm rolls through or when a solid southwesterly swell marches up from the Bay of Biscay. Between Swanpool and Gyllyngvase there's a rocky protrusion called Falmouth Reef that can produce long, walling rights. Large local surf population supplemented by the Uni students so will be busy if breaking. Tides: Works through the tides. Size: Thigh high to overhead. Wind: NW Swell: SW Bottom: Small sandy bays with rocks and a wide reef. Paddling: Fine. Spot Rating: Pretty average beach that rarely breaks with a reef can get good.

Not amazing waves but the reef needs a degree of experience as rocky and busy.

Beachside car parks at all three locations.

Needs big swells that tend to run December - February.

Crowd Factor: Can get crowded when it's working. Local Vibe: Competitive.

Crowded when on. Car parks by the beaches. Full facilities in Falmouth.

Generally good, but sewage out Autumn from river after rains.

Crowds, rocks.
