Accessing Fences typically involves a bit of a trek from Waiinu Beach, so be prepared for a short walk. It's important to remember that this place is best suited for advanced riders.

The waves at Fences can break over uneven reef and sand, offering both point breaks and rides that generally go to the right. The optimal swell direction is southwest, but it can also pick up swells coming from the south and west. Fences handles swell sizes starting from a manageable 0.6 meters (2 feet) and can provide some solid waves when the conditions are right. The best times to surf are during mid to high tides, especially with a northeast wind blowing. Just keep in mind that the quality of the surf can be inconsistent, so it really depends on the day.
