Fish Pass Jetties surf guide

Fish Pass Jetties is a surf spot located in the Corpus Christi area, well-known for its laid-back vibe and longboard-friendly waves. It's pretty easy to get to, as you can park at Mustang Island State Park or drive in from access road 2. While the jetties have silted up over time, they do provide some protection from strong N or S winds. This spot tends to attract a mellow crowd, mostly made up of friendly longboarders, making it a nice place to catch some waves without too much hassle.

The surf here tends to be mushy, making it better suited for longboards, especially during lower to mid tides. On a good day, you might find waves ranging from waist high (about 1 meter) to head high (around 3 meters). The waves typically break over sand, with both left and right river mouth setups. You’ll want to look for southeast swells for the optimal conditions, but it can also handle swells from the northeast and south, with sizes ranging from 0.3 meters to 3 meters (1 ft to 10 ft). Paddling can be a bit tricky due to longshore currents, so you might need some experience to stay on the peak near the jetties, especially as the tide rises.

This spot is usually best in the late summer and fall, and again from late winter into mid-spring. While you can ride shortboards, funboards, and longboards here, the waves generally favor those on longer boards. Don’t expect it to be the best option on the Texas coast, as there are other breaks further south that might provide more exciting surf experiences, but it still has its moments and can be a fun spot when the conditions align.
