Frankport surf guide

Frankport is located about six miles (8.5 km) south of Humbug Mountain along the winding 101 highway. As you drive, keep an eye out for a large, partially excavated headland. When you see it, you can pull off onto a dirt road that leads to the north-facing cove known as Frankport, which offers a unique surf experience.

This spot is best for intermediate surfers, especially when the swell is coming from the Southwest. Frankport can handle swell sizes starting from 2 feet (0.6 meters) and can get pretty decent, especially on a Northwest swell. There are some nice lefts and rights that break over the sandy bottom. The peak in the middle of the cove can create a good right that reels into a channel near the rocky shore. It’s definitely worth checking out, but be aware that it can get big at times.

The area offers good shelter from south winds, making it a decent spot to surf even when conditions aren’t perfect. It's best to catch the waves during mid to high tides, and you’ll want to look for a Southeast wind for the most favorable conditions. The road down to Frankport can be rough, so just make sure you park at the top and be ready for a bit of a walk.
