Galley Bay is located on the north side and is known for being one of the more consistent surf spots in the area. While it may look inviting from a distance, it's important to know what you're getting into here. The spot is not for beginners, so be prepared to navigate some tricky conditions.
The surf here works best with north swells, but it can also handle northwest and northeast swells. You'll find waves breaking over live coral, which means you'll want to be careful with your board. The wave direction is predominantly left, and the spot can manage swell sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). If you’re planning to surf here, the best wind direction is southeast, and it works well at low, mid, and high tides. Overall, this spot is more suited for intermediate surfers due to the fast-breaking waves and shallow sections.
Keep in mind that while the outside lefts might catch your eye, they tend to be quite shallow and can break quickly and hollow over the staghorn coral. Sometimes the beach can have those close-out shore dumpers that can surprise you. So, if you decide to hit Galley Bay, make sure you’ve got decent skills and are ready to react fast.
