Gallows is not a place to get hung up in the lip, since it wedges up and throws out hard and thick. Works on most E swells with rights barrelling back towards the rocks and lefts spinning down the beach. Guaranteed power, so it attracts the best stand-ups and bodyboarders, who won't leave much for experienced travellers.
Water quality by the harbour can be iffy, but the old Poo Pier is gone.
