Georges is a mile-long beachbreak running alongside Old Highway 101, between the restaurants in Cardiff and Seaside Reef. It breaks over sand and offers both lefts and rights. After years of hardly breaking because of sand loss, it has regained some of its old quality thanks to recent beach-sand nourishment.
When It Works
Georges wants small, peaky swells. It draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with west the best match, and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Peaks shift along the sand, so it pays to hunt around for the best bank.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. The break favors low tide, with a rising tide the better call, and keeping to the lower end of the tide also helps take the sting out of the backwash.
Local Tips
Georges is never crowded, so you can usually spread out and find your own peak.
