Gilgo Beach surf guide
Surf: General: A far cry from the rest of Long Island, this stretch of coast is made up of long, sparsely populated barrier islands, consisting mostly of state and town beach parks. Gilgo is loaded with surfing history. Given the right conditions, the peaks can be hollow, but there is usually someplace better nearby.

Size: Waist high-well overhead
Wind: NW to NNW
Swell: SE, SSE, S
Bottom: Sand
Paddling: Tough on big swells but mostly not too bad.
Spot Rating: Fun but usually not the best spot around.
Access: Easy
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Heavy in summer, otherwise not bad.
Local Vibe: Mellow.
Environment: Pretty clean overall.
Hazards: None really; just pay attention to novice surfers in the water.
