Goat Wash surf guide

Goat Wash is located just north of Domoni on the island of Anjouan. It features a black sand beachbreak that is known for being the most consistent surf spot in the area. The beach gets protection from south winds thanks to a rocky point, making it a popular choice for surfers looking for reliable conditions. However, it can struggle with summer northeast winds.

The best conditions for surfing at Goat Wash generally arise with northeast and southeast swells, with optimal swell directions coming from the northeast. The waves here can handle sizes starting at 2ft (about 0.6 meters) and can produce both lefts and rights. Most of the action happens at low to mid tide, and the waves break over a mix of boulders and sand. While the beach can have occasional punchy and hollow waves, it's not uncommon for conditions to lead to some close-outs, especially in the Tatinga rivermouth area.

As for additional info, it's worth noting that the north coast of Anjouan doesn’t pick up regular swells, but you might find some boulder reefs that can catch northern cyclone swells during the summer months. Goat Wash has its quirks, and while it’s not typically considered epic, it still offers a fun session for surfers willing to explore the surrounding areas.
