Graveyard surf guide

Surf: YAKUTAT is the most well-known surf destination in SE Alaska and dubbed “The Far North Shore”. Swells wrap around Point Carrew cleaning themselves up along shifting sandbars down to Graveyard, located inside the estuary itself. The original SW swell will be much smaller but cleaner as howling onshores become dead offshores. The sand is in constant flux, but the whole set-up favours lefts with barrels and power, plus a small swell right that’s short and steep. Handles big swells as Red Bull expedition proved with triple overhead waves from out on the point down into the bay. Always prefers less water, especially in small swells. Environment: Rips are really strong out on Point Carrew and there are some rocky patches. The local surfer population is around 30, many of whom own boats and have explored the great potential of the islands inside Yakutat Bay.
