Surf: If the crowds at the main attraction prove too much, head a kilometre south to another shorter right point known as Graveyards. Despite a fast take-off the wave soon backs off to become a fat wall. Directions: From Kaikoura Drive north on State Highway 1 for about 10mins, until you cross the Hapuku River and pass Hapuku. Just past Hapuku Lodge, where the road meets the coast line again there will be a tight left hand corner, take the road on the right just before the corner, Kiwa Road. Its a gravel road, cross the railway line and check the surf. Just to the south a little way, in front of the graveyard theres a small point with some right handers breaking, known as Graveyards. Environment: Prefers SE-SW direction. Take gravel road to cemetery.
