More about Gualala Rivermouth surfspot

Various sandbars relying on rainfall and river flow. The mouth does get good on occasion, but, like all other North Coast rivers, is only surfable during the small swells of summer and early autumn.

Since the mouth is basically divided in half by the Sonoma-Mendocino county line, you need to go through Sonoma’s Gualala Point Regional Park to publicly access the dune-backed beach. In the town of Gualala itself, beach access is only through adjacent restaurants and inns. This isn’t to say you can’t reach the north side of the mouth, but you might have to briefly explain your quest to a maitre d’ or innkeeper while tromping through with your surfboard underarm.
