Gwenvor is one of the most exposed beaches in Cornwall. If there’s no surf here, you can pretty much bet there’s no surf anywhere else in the area. The beach offers some beachbreak peaks, and at the north end of the bay, there’s a right-hand point that can break over a mix of sand and rock. This spot can be pretty fickle, so it’s best to check conditions before heading out.
The optimal swell direction for Gwenvor is from the SouthWest, but it can also handle swells coming from the South and NorthWest. It works well with swell sizes starting at around 2ft (0.6m). The waves here can break both left and right, which gives surfers a few options depending on the crowd and conditions. For the best experience, aim to surf during low to mid tide, and keep an eye on the wind; easterly winds are preferable here.
Getting to Gwenvor can be a bit tricky since it's not the easiest spot to find. You can either walk from Sennen or use a map to navigate through Escalls to Tregiffian Farm, where there's parking available at the top of the cliff. Make sure to have a plan for getting there as it’s off the beaten path.
