General: Hana Bay, located in Hana, is on the far eastern edge of Maui. The bay is protected from most swells by a reef off the end of each side of the bay. However, easterly tradeswell (very common all year long, nearly every day) or bigger N to NE swells will get in and offer a fun peak near the center of the beach in front of the rivermouth. Unfortunately, Hana Bay will usually be blown out by the persistent easterly tradewind, but can get good when a front is passing through with offshore Kona winds. Tides: Medium to high Size: Chest high-2X overhead Wind: Calm or offshore from a westerly direction (SW-W-NW) during passing fronts in winter. Swell: NE to SE, with ENE marching straight into the bay. Bottom: Mostly reef and rock, some sand. Paddling: Short paddle, but currents can keep you paddling to stay in position. Spot Rating: Very consistent spot with easterly tradeswell, but usually accompanied by onshore easterly trade winds as well. Best days are with an easterly swell and a passing front bringing SW clocking NW wind, which is not very often.

Easy. Paddle out from pretty much anywhere in the bay. Hana Beach Park on the southern end of the bay.
Year-round with waves, thanks to the persistent ENE tradeswell, but winter provides episodes of ideal wind.
