Harlyn surf guide
Surf: North-facing Harlyn needs SW winds and a solid winter swell, offering friendly rolling walls for the crowds of longboarders and beginners who flock here during storm swells. Gets really fat and backwashy at high.
Environment: One of the few storm options so gets very busy, including the odd surf school. Car park by the beach. No facilities
Surf: General: The northerly facing aspect here means that it needs a decent swell to wrap in, but it has the advantage of being offshore in a southwesterly when many spots are being wind lashed. This makes it a popular spot when winter storms roll through. Mid tide is best as the lack of defined banks means low tends to close out. Can get crowded. Parking overlooking the beach.
Tides: Mid tide.
Size: Waist high to overhead.
Wind: S, SW
Swell: SW, W
Bottom: Sand
Paddling: Can be lots of water moving so beware of currents and rips.
Spot Rating: Not a classic spot, but a sheltered haven for short, punchy waves when everywhere else is blown out. Throw a bellyboard or handplane in the car for some whomping.
Access: Beachfront parking.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Will often be one of few spots working so expect crowds.
Local Vibe: Pretty chilled.
Environment: Good.
Hazards: Waves can be powerful and punchy.
Season: A haven in winter storms December - February.
