More about Hell's Gate surfspot

Geraldton is known as the crayfish capital of the world and relies on fishing for it's existence. Many of these fishermen are surfers who must have plenty of paddling power to access the reefs sitting 20 minutes offshore. Hell’s Gate is an all tides, powerful and shallow righthander, breaking 1km out in front of the Point Moore lighthouse.

Currents, sharks and a tight local bunch are all reasons not to go. Inside closer to the point is a short wedgy left called Explosives that the bodyboarders love and is offshore in the arvo southerlies.
