More about Hobe Sound surfspot

Located in the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge at the northern end of Jupiter Island. Low tide impedes the swell on the outside bank so mid to high is the call for the better inside shorebreak. On bigger days with N swells, longer lefts in particular will link through to the beachbreak, reforming and standing up on the inside. A half-mile out is a reef that acts as a good indicator for approaching sets. This is the southernmost point of Florida’s coast that receives due E groundswells. The shadow of the Bahamas blocks long-fetch, due-E swells from reaching the breaks to the south.

This area is ostentatiously affluent and the closed community employs overzealous law-enforcement officers. State-of-the-art surveillance technology means obey the low speed limits on the area’s narrow streets to avoid a ticket. Beware the oyster shells in the shorebreak and the turbid water that hides abundant sea life, particularly the toothed variety. Unofficial nudist beach 1/4 mile north of here. Pay to park year round in the sometimes crowded conditions.
