Hooks surf guide

Hooks is a beachbreak located in Florida that offers surfers a unique experience. It’s a pretty consistent spot, attracting a decent amount of surfers, especially during the good swells. Keep in mind that it can get crowded at times, so you might have to share the waves with others. The atmosphere is relaxed, but always watchful of the ocean, as you would anywhere in Florida.

The surf here works best on high tide and can handle swell sizes around 2ft (about 0.6 meters). The lefts really shine when a Northeast swell rolls in, but you can catch some rights as well. The waves break over sand, creating some hollow and powerful surf that can be quite fun. This spot is suitable for beginners, making it a great place for those looking to improve their skills while enjoying a nice day at the beach. If the wind comes from the west, the conditions tend to be even better.

While you’re out there enjoying the waves, keep in mind that summer can bring swarms of man-o-war, which is something to watch for. As with almost all Florida surf spots, sharks are a part of the environment, and it’s always good to keep that in mind while you’re in the water.
