Surf: In Port Aransas, the Horace Caldwell Pier peaks up on either side depending on swell direction, sandbanks and tide levels. Best on a E-SE swell at mid tide. Environment: Pretty consistent spot with crowds sometimes a factor but there are lots of options around here. Surf: General: Located in Port Aransas, Horace Caldwell Pier provides consistent pier bowls on either side. Waves are usually softer than what you can find farther south. Tides: Medium Size: Waist high to a few feet overhead Wind: N, NW or W with swell Swell: S, SE, E Bottom: Sand. Paddling: The rip by the pier makes it easy to get out, but expect to paddle against the current to stay in position. Spot Rating: Best longboard wave in the state on its days. Access: Easy, free parking at the pier. Crowds: Crowd Factor: Dense lineup at the best peaks when there is swell, spread out the farther from the pier you get. Local Vibe: Relatively positive.
