Horners surf guide

Horners is located in Wailua and has been a traditional surfing spot for a long time. These days, it doesn't see as many surfers as it used to, making it a bit of an under-the-radar location. The surf here can be pretty inconsistent, usually requiring a solid north swell and northwest winds to really get it going. While it has some potential, it's not always a reliable choice for a surf session.

The best waves at Horners are generally found on lefts that break over an uneven reef and some sand. It can handle swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and works best with north swells. You might also find it breaking on southeast swells. The spot is more suited for intermediate surfers, as the wave can get tricky. If you hit it at low, mid, or high tide on a good day, you might catch some fun rides, but keep in mind that the surf can be pretty average outside the right conditions.

While you're out there, just keep in mind that Horners is known to have had a tiger shark incident in the past, so stay aware. The surrounding area is pretty chill, but the focus here is definitely on the waves. Overall, it's a place worth checking out if you’re around and the conditions align.
