45km NE of the tourist hub of Sanya, the small village of Houhai hosts a very consistent and powerful beachbreak, best on small to medium E and NE swells. Houhai is the winter hub for Sanya's booming surf scene with good wind and swell protection in the deep scalloped bay.
Surfer friendly guesthouses and board rentals can be found here. Kitesurfing is popular and just offshore, Wuzhizou Island has some rights in big swell on the north coast.
