Huntington State Beach Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Huntington State Beach is a two-mile stretch of beachbreak that surfs a notch better than average. It's a mellow, sandy-bottomed setup that peels both left and right, and it sits far enough down the coast to stay quieter than the busy pier area.

When It Works

The waves break over sand and favor smaller, peaky swells. It draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest, with southwest swell the best match, and it's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is good, though it closes out before the pier area once the swell builds.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast offshore wind. It works on any tide, from low through mid to high, with a rising tide generally the better call. Wind is the real limiter here: like every Huntington beach it blows out by 11am, and it tends to blow out earlier than the pier area does.

Local Tips

This is a friendly beginner beachbreak. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, though it stays less crowded than the pier stretch.

Access

Park in the pay lots along the beach, or use the metered parking up on the highway. There are restrooms, showers, and lifeguards on hand.
