Overview
Il Porto is a reef peak that breaks on the south side of Santa Marinella harbour. It throws up both rights and lefts over a rock ledge and sand, and the wave holds its quality even when the wind turns onshore. That resilience makes it one of the more reliable peaks around the harbour.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from the southwest through west (SW-W), with southwest swell the best match for lining up clean rights and lefts. West and southwest swells in particular tend to deliver good-quality walls here. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving it a wide operating window from smaller days up to solid overhead surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to groom the faces, though the peak can still produce even when the wind swings onshore. It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-level wave, best suited to surfers comfortable navigating a reef peak. Expect a busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
Getting to the line-up is tricky, with a paddle out over rocks and urchins, so take care on entry and exit. Water quality is poor. There is free parking nearby.
