Inch Reef is a long, wally right-hand pointbreak located in Ireland. It's not something you find everywhere, which makes it a bit of a gem for surfers. However, since it has good visibility, a bit of history, and easy access, it's often crowded. When conditions are just right, it can offer an excellent surfing experience, with rides stretching up to 400 meters on a good day.
The spot handles swells from 3ft (about 1 meter) to 8ft (around 2.5 meters) coming mostly from the West-Southwest. It works best with low to mid tides, and the ideal wind direction is from the NorthEast to EastNorthEast. Rides here are generally suited for intermediate to expert surfers, so be prepared for some competition in the water. The wave breaks over a rocky bottom, and be ready for some extra paddling since it's a long ride. On the days it really fires, you can get some solid wave action.
When you're headed to Inch Reef, park on the road and take the goat path down to the water. Because of the crowd factor, it’s good to be chill out there. Wave etiquette goes a long way; sharing waves can help you enjoy the session more. Expect the local vibe to include some negotiation about the lineup, so keep it friendly. Fall and winter bring in the bigger swells, making it the prime time to score some decent waves.
