More about Indian State Beach, Ecola State Park surfspot

Located on the south side of Tillamook Head, opposite Seaside Cove and Point, you might think the waves here would be a mirror of Seaside. No dice. A lovely rocky cove at the mouths of the Ecola and Canyon creeks – nice sand-and-gravel bar formations make for clean peaks with lefts and rights at mid to high tides (incoming best). Don’t expect long rides except on the most epic days. Sheltered from the prevailing NW wind, this is a pleasant summertime spot.

Very popular with summer-only Portland surfers and their families. During the north wind or foggy days of summer, this place can be partly cloudy and glassy. A great place to paddle out and check the sea stacks to the south toward Cannon Beach. Pay $3 to get into the park for a surf check. If it’s no good, you have 10 minutes or so to get your butt out and take your refund with you.
