More about Isla Blanca State Park surfspot

General: Isla Blanca Park in South Padre marks the epicenter of consistency and quality surf in Texas. Isla Blanca contains several peaks on the north side of the jetty which can showcase powerful, hollow walls not typically associated with Texas surf. Best on SE to E swells and can handle much larger surf then elsewhere in Texas. As with most Texan passes, in-between the two jetties there are a couple of quality waves that only break on the biggest swells when the beaches are closed out. On the strongest hurricane events, even tow surfing becomes a viable option at the end of the jetties. Tides: Medium Size: Waist high to a double overhead Wind: W, but SW will also work next to the jetty Swell: SE, E, NE Bottom: Sand. Paddling: Can be a long paddle on the big days. Spot Rating: Consistently fun surf with good shape if the winds are not blowing too hard.

Beginner to advanced on most days, but experts only on big hurricane swells.

Easy, parking in the state park or walk down the beach from town.

Late summer/fall; late winter to mid-spring

Crowd Factor: As packed as they come in Texas on great swells. Can be mellow other times. Local Vibe: Can be competitive on the good days at the best peaks.

Relatively clean.

Strong currents near the jetty.
