Itatinga surf guide

Itatinga is a surf spot located across a wide river, offering a unique beach experience. While it's not the most famous surfing destination, it has its own charm for those looking to catch some waves. The sands here shift quite a bit due to the estuary's movement, so conditions can vary. Itatinga is generally more known for shell collecting than surfing, but there are still surfable days to be had.

The surf at Itatinga usually works best with a strong North to North-East swell. You'll find that waves can line up nicely on the banks with these swells, especially when they're around 2 feet (approximately 0.6 meters). The waves break over sand, and you can catch both lefts and rights here. For the best results, you'll want to aim for low to mid or even high tides, and the ideal wind direction is from the Northwest. This spot is beginner-friendly, making it a good choice if you’re just starting out.

To the north, Praia de Tapireí might have bigger waves, but it’s also more exposed to wind and has a bit of a reputation for being sharky. If you’re looking for a more relaxed vibe and less intensity in the surf, Itatinga could be your go-to spot on the right day.
