Jameos Del Agua is a surf spot located on the north coast of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. It's known for its unique volcanic landscapes and crystal-clear waters. The area attracts surfers looking for a decent wave and a bit of scenery. The spot can get pretty crowded, especially when the waves are good, so be prepared to share the lineup with other surfers.
The waves here are mainly a left point, but on the biggest and cleanest swells, you might find a solid right at the end of the point. The optimal swell direction is Northeast, with other directions coming from Northwest and Northeast as well. Jameos Del Agua can handle swell sizes from 2 ft (0.6 m) and breaks over an uneven reef. While the waves can line up nicely with sectiony walls and shoulders, they sometimes lack a bit of power. However, on classic days, it’s known to offer the longest wave on the island. It works better at higher tides but can be surfed at low and mid-tides too. This spot is best suited for intermediate surfers due to the nature of the wave and the reef.
The spot is often surfable even when strong north winds are blowing on the rest of the island, which adds to its popularity. Because of this, you'll find a mix of surfers here, but the length of the wave helps to spread everyone out in the lineup. Just a heads up, nearby reefs can have local surfers, so it’s usually good to stick to Jameos Del Agua if you want to avoid heavy localism.
