On an E to SE wind, inside James Point will probably be the only offshore spot working. Combine that with a N swell and it becomes the place to be for clean, hollow and very shallow rights at the end of the dirt road. Around the main headland to the east is an exposed deep-water reef that handles big rights wrapping into the bay. Big sea-life, mega urchins and impossible reef access mean it’s a super-long paddle.

There are two breaks at James Point. - There is the smaller wave that breaks right at the end of the incoming road (leading in along north side of the salt pond). It is one of the best waves on the island when conditions are right. Place is very shallow too. - The other spot (originally called James Point), is located all the way out off the point, which is a right hander that breaks in towards the bay. This spot can handle the really big stuff. You need to walk south all the way around the bay to the other side (from where the north entry road dead-ends on the south side of the bay at to get to it, or you have to paddle all the way across the bay. Watch for sea-urchins when paddling out, because they're everywhere and don't try walking out on the rocks to get out, because you will get slammed by incoming waves (as I've seen guys get torn up on several occasions). This wave breaks in much deeper water over reef, and is one of the few breaks on the Eleuthera that can handle the big stuff. four-wheeler is needed to get out there? That is not the case anymore as there is a fairly decent flat dirt/rock road that leads in along north side of the salt pond. In the old days, you had to drive up from the south along the sand dunes - which was always a difficult journey. We first started venturing out there in the very early 80's, and it was an adventure to say the least - remote , difficult to get to and no one around for miles. We always surfed the right hander that breaks into the bay off the point. It's a great wave, but the waters around there can get spooky - I mean there are some really big and nasty looking creatures cruising around out there (if you know what I mean).
