More about Jean Rabel surfspot

This is the first (and only) notable spot to the W outside of the giant swell shadow of Ile de La Tortuga. There is a right pointbreak and a sprawling rivermouth with various rideable sections over shallow cobbles. Link up the shallow spots with razor-edge turns, float over long feathering lips and hook under tight pockets for a fun ride, with real potential in a solid NE swell.

Follow the road out of town N to the coast and access either side of the rivermouth.

Part of the northern rain shadow, the environment here is arid. Like many towns in Haiti, Jean Rabel is fast transforming, with new paved roads. There are a number of places to stay and many bars blaring out good accordion based compas music and serving decent food. Go for the goat, with rice, plantain and Prestige beer.
