A couple of large rock formations below the historic Cliff House provide some shelter from afternoon NW winds at the north end of Ocean Beach. This SW-facing nook picks up S swells, which can produce typical Ocean Beach thumpers at any tide, but with generally more reliable peaks and shape.
Because it’s relatively sheltered and easily accessible, there’s a much higher concentration of surfers here than further south. Large parking lots right alongside the beach accommodate heavy tourist traffic on weekends and summer days. Restrooms, showers, telephones, and other amenities abound.
