Overview
Kijal is a sand-bottomed beachbreak that spreads its peaks along a 1km stretch of coastal road, so you can move up and down the beach to find the best bank. The waves break both left and right, and the pick of the setup is usually near the rocks at the south end.
When It Works
Kijal draws swell from the north through to the east, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving a decent working range for a beachbreak. Consistency is moderate, so it can be worth keeping an eye on when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. The beach can work through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-suited beachbreak, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet even when it is working.
