Kings Beach surf guide

Kings Beach is located just south of town and often has a messy look, but it can surprise surfers when the right conditions hit. The beach features a mix of rock ledges and sandy areas, creating various surfing opportunities. It’s a popular spot, so don’t be surprised if you see a good number of surfers in the water, especially when the north side breaks are onshore.

The best conditions for surfing at Kings Beach usually come from the NorthEast, with some action also coming from the SouthEast. It handles swell sizes starting from around 1 foot (0.3 meters) and offers both left and right wave directions. The groyne at the southern end is a good spot for thick, cylindrical lefts, especially during NE-SE swells. It works well when the wind is coming from the NorthWest and can break at low, mid, and high tides. Overall, Kings Beach is suited for intermediate surfers, so make sure you know your limits out there.

Watch out for the rocks and reef at KB Groyne, as they can be sharp and it may suck dry, especially at low tide. The environment includes urchins, barnacles, and cunjevoi that encrust the reef, so it's essential to be careful. There have also been sightings of sharks in the inlet waters, so keep an eye out while you’re riding the waves. The beach can be inconsistent when it comes to good surf days, but if you hit it right, there can be plenty of fun to be had.
