Kottey surf guide

Kottey is the furthest surf spot to the west, located next to a muddy lagoon. The area has some interesting reef breaks that are best explored during the SW monsoon season. While the backdrop might not be the most appealing, there are waves to catch when the conditions are right.

The surf at Kottey really shines with a southwest swell, but it can also handle swells from the south and northwest. Typically, it works well when the swell sizes are around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) or more. The waves break over dead coral and offer both left and right-handers, so surfers can enjoy a bit of variety. Keep in mind that the conditions can get heavy and rippy, which can make it challenging to paddle out, especially since there’s no safe channel. Low, mid, and high tides all have their moments at this spot, but the wind is best coming from the south.

To the north, you’ll find Demon Point, which can surprise you with some clean, small peaks. Just be aware that space is pretty limited here with room for only 2-3 surfers at a time. Overall, Kottey is worth checking out, especially during the right conditions.
