L’Aubraie surf guide

L’Aubraie is a surf spot that features several peaks over a mix of reef and sand. It offers a laid-back vibe with a bit of a local feel, especially during the summer when a campsite is available near the beach. However, you should expect a bit of a trek to get here, as there’s no car park, meaning you'll have to walk in a fair distance.

The waves here generally handle swell sizes starting from about 1 ft (0.3 meters) and can really pick up with the right conditions. The optimal swell direction is west, but it also works with southwest and northwest swells. You’ll find that the lefts tend to be better than the rights, giving you a good chance to score some fun rides. The reef works well at low, mid, and high tides, but keep in mind that it can turn into a shoredump with backwash when the beach gets packed. For the best experience, the wind coming from the northeast will help clean up the surf.

L’Aubraie is suitable for intermediate surfers, so it's a good spot if you’re looking to improve your skills. Just remember to watch out for the sharp rocks around, especially if you wander off into the sets. The beachbreak can be a bit poor compared to the reef, but it's usually not too crowded, especially out of season.
